Mt Ngauruhoe, New Zealand: Mount Ngauruhoe is a volcanic cone in New Zealand. It is the youngest vent in the Tongariro stratovolcano complex on the Central Plateau of the North Island and first erupted about 2,500 years ago. Hahahahahahaha I live in a death trap.
The Auckland Volcanic zone has 50 volcanoes in a 1000 square km area.
If the dormant Rangitoto volcano erupts again it will probably wipe out Auckland’s North Shore the last eruption was 600 years ago.
The Auckland Museum is built on the crater of Mt. Pukekawa.
Taupō’s eruption 1800 years ago (dated by sampling ice cores in Greenland and Antarctica) was so violent that it was heard in China! It blew itself up and left the crater lake that is now Lake Taupō the biggest lake in the country! -The blob in the middle of the island there.
The Auckland Museum advise that it’s not a matter of if, but when. Which is reassuring as heck.
